I’m not ready to talk about Watchmen yet.

Saw Watchmen today. While observing the film it occurred to me that I am completely incapable of understanding whether or not it is any good. It seems that I’m so utterly familiar with the original material that I can’t relate to it in any way other than how it measures up to the comic. I’m sure non-fans of the book will think it’s great.

It’s obviously better than The Dark Knight or X-Men 2.

I’m not going to start listing things I reacted badly to, because I’ll be here all night. More to the point, though, there’s supposedly a 4+ hour cut coming that may alleviate some of my issues.

Really, I don’t think I’ll be able to talk about the film at any length until I read the book a few times, watch V for Vendetta a few times, and then read that book a few times.

In addition to everything else that happened, two entire chapters from the book. One is the best chapter, and it will likely not be put back in. There’s a slight chance that my favorite chapter may be returned, but I don’t hold out much hope.

Zack Snyder is in love with violence. Someone might want to warn his wife before he runs off with a compound fracture.

Despite the absurd amount of gore added to the film, the single plot-related injury is ridiculously tame – a supposedly huge cut across a man’s face that doesn’t bleed.

I wonder if Hayden Christensen is relieved now that there’s a more awkward ‘NOOOOOOO!’ moment in a film.

I’m tired, and I’m sick. I’m going to watch something that makes me happy. Although right now I have no idea what that could possibly be.

P.S. It's nice that the film left us with an important message: That rape is forgivable should a child result from the union.

Fuck you, Zack Snyder.
